Here are three things that Jones said at different times today. It’s great that he’s asking such deep theological questions at such a young age…3…hopefully by the time he’s a little bit older we’ll lose him while visiting family in Lubbock only to find that he was studying the Bible with the preachers from the local congregations. And then, when we scold him for not staying with us he’ll say some smart allec comment like “mom, dad, what else would I do but study at the meeting location of my fathers autonomous church?”
I won’t take time to try to recreate the whole conversation that took place, but here was each initial query:
- Jones: Dad, why does God need heaven?
- Jones: But how does Jesus take our souls to heaven?
- Ryan: “Kiddo, did you know that Jesus loves you very very much? He thinks you’re so special!” Jones: “God loves me, but God doesn’t love me because I kill bugs. It makes God sad when I kill his creation.”
So, in conclusion, I think Jones would want to ask you what the purpose and function of heaven is, and why would God even create it. And if he has, indeed, created it, how are we able to be a part of it? And finally, how can a loving God desire relationship with those of us who make poor choices to damage the beauty which he has entrusted us with?
Try answering that to your three year old!
Well, instead, I decided to make three 3 yr olds cry today. The first was Aimee, who speaks Spanish with little understanding of English. I have been taking her and her brother home to their house after preschool and yesterday she had her first playdate ever at my house without her mom and she loved it. So, it didn't work out too well when I told her I was taking her to her house today. As we got closer she started saying that she did not want to go to her house. By the time we were there she was crying. She was so adamant about coming over that she wouldn't get out of the car! Not with mother's coaxing, even. She was dragged from the back of the van floor kicking and screaming by her mother who had to carry her upstairs and lock her in the house to keep her from escaping back down stairs! Interestingly enough, she is the sweetest little girl and has never done anything like that before… I guess she likes coming over! The other two were Izzy and the other three year old from across the street who I take home too. It was all about not being able to play. I'm such a downer! I will say that yesterday I started off with 3 3 year olds (oh, Izzy's four, oops) and then progressed to another 3 yr old, a baby and a babysitter who were locked out of their house, a 6 yr old and 2 7 yr olds! I don't know how I got all those kids but I'm pretty sure I deserved a no play day! Maybe I should have just blogged about this instead…
how cute! i can't believe he's 3 yrs old! it's been so long since we've seen y'all. About the Lubbock reference: will you be visiting here soon?!
Did he ask about your fantasy football outcome this last weekend? Yes, that would be a tough question to answer too.
