I think there are quite a bit of people blogging about this, but my nourishing mother Cascade College has announced that they’re closing their doors at the end of the school year (May). While I wasn’t a Cascade junkie like a lot of people I know, I am overwhelmed at the thought of the impact of losing Cascade’s presence in the NW. Not only do a lot of my friends work there, but many of the churches around here are staffed by quality professors that get the bulk of their pay from Cascade. Also, Cascade has served as a resource in hosting and planning area wide gatherings and such. I could go on and on about how this is going to impact us locally here, I mean, even the loss of the students at many of our churches (I’m thinking of Renovatus and Agape) around here will be painful.
Please pray for who/what God raises up to equip, send, and draw people to ministry in the NW. Cascade will be missed.
Ron and I have been praying for everyone impacted by this. It is a sad day for many of our friends.
Can you get a refund on your degree?
as much of a fan that i am not of some of cascade's decisions in the past . . . i am sooo grateful for the "family" i have been given through this institution. i met most of my best friends because of this place . . . plus, is a degree from a school that doesn't exist any good even?
I don't know about you but my degree says that it is from Oklahoma Christian…which allows me to breath a slight sigh of relief.
I told Diane, one of moms old roommates and my friend, "Now I know how you feel." At first I was just shocked but then I thought about all my memories there and I got pretty sad. Nothing will be going on in the rehearsal hall any more… No life in the dorms. Not only do I feel extremely sad for the students who are getting completely jipped, but so many great people and friends that we worshiped with who might not be able to stay in the NW. Granted, there are a number of other good schools in the area that could provide jobs for a few but some will inevitably have to move away whether it's to another school or even a ministry role at a church somewhere. Teens chose to go to Cascade for any number of reasons and it stinks that some won't be able to get to OC. It's great that they're honoring all scholarships, but what about plane tickets? We pooled money together just to get one of our teens to be able to buy her books. She has one year left… In my opinion, I wouldn't worry about trying to finish at OC. There are a number of Biblical, great colleges in this area. At least they have a little time to be able to work out all the things that need to be decided. It's sad, real sad. What's going to happen with the campus? It can't just sit there while Columbia uses the cafeteria and rehearsal hall…
yes, very very sad indeed.
